Sustainability Fund

The Sustainability Fund is available to individuals, community groups and businesses to encourage and support micro-scale renewable energy projects and energy efficiency projects.

The aim of this fund is to help islanders address climate change by reducing energy consumption and by reducing the carbon footprint of energy that is consumed. A further benefit is to reduce energy bills to help address fuel poverty and to improve the financial sustainability of community buildings. Examples of projects that will be supported include:
  • Solar PV
  • Solar thermal
  • Installation of Heat Pumps to replace fossil fuel heating systems
  • Micro-hydro
  • Small scale wind
  • External wall insulation
  • Internal wall insulation
  • Draught proofing 
  • Replacement of single glazed windows with double or triple glazing
It is hoped to supplement schemes by UK and Scottish Government and by Argyll and Bute Council to help make such projects more viable for residents. Grants of up to £1,000 are available for individuals and up to £2,500 for businesses. Successful applicants must complete reporting forms post funding and provide proof of purchases with receipts and a breakdown of spending. Each application will be reviewed on an individual basis and Trustees will seek repayment if the expenditure turns out to be less than anticipated.

Eligibility

  • Applications are invited from constituted community groups, residents and businesses based on Mull, Iona Ulva, Gometra and Erraid
  • For individuals, permanent residence on Mull, Iona, Ulva, Gometra or Erraid must be demonstrated e.g. with Council Tax Bill
  • Community groups must have a bank account for which two or more signatures are required to authorise payments
  • Business applicants must hold a bank account in the name of the business

Information and Guidance

  • This programme cannot support internal staff costs
  • Self-catering properties are eligible for the residential grant of £1,000 and limited to 1 application per applicant
  • Grants are not available retrospectively
  • Quotes from suppliers or materials should be included in your application
  • Where applicable, community groups must attach evidence of your financial stability and support within the wider community for your project
  • If awarded, you will be expected to spend the grant within 12 months and provide evidence of how it has been used. Such evidence would include photographs and a report.
  • You can apply to the Sustainability Fund only once; further projects from the same applicants will not be accepted

Grant Size

£1,000 for individuals and £2,500 for businesses and community buildings
